Plenty of questions plague Jaywalker who gets let off his 3-year suspension early and finds himself representing a rich man who may have caused 9 deaths when a van he allegedly hit bursts into flames after a horrific traffic accident. The firat part of the book rocks, by the way. He has to defend his client no matter what, so how will he build a defence this time? Excellent read. There is a danger of his work becoming a little formulaic; the plot of Depraved Indifference parallels that of his first book, the 10th Directive (which presents how and why he was disbarred in a scene and with self-justifications that are marvelously scurrilous.) Just be sure to start at the begining with No Lesser Plea and work your way to Hoax. I have another book by this author. Even I will admit this one was a little over the top with the conspiracies and counter-conspiracies and wheels-within-wheels. There is a constant sense, convincingly communicated, of his being a man whose life is on hold. He starts killing anyone until the last ......... very weird ending, that’s for sure! I agree with another reader that the voices all started to sound the same. This is an early book in the series, so Butch and Marlene are not yet married. Kennedy sets you up, leads you to the perfect conclusion only to knock you back but immediately starts you on another journey- even more intriguing.
great book love all the books of this series. I had the feeling that I was sitting with the author at fireside and he was taking me into his confidence about his career. What a read! There were so many characters and a lot of them seemed to share the same voice. This one gets a fifth star because of the ending, with one the most wonderful comeuppances I've ever read. this “terrific thriller” from the USA Today –bestselling author (Lee Child). The Great Trap was pretty funny. Megumi's friends waste no time charging to her rescue, with Miki and Hitomoji making by far the best time.
Teller is effortless in his dialog and the plainness of style makes them real. There are so many twist & turn you just can't figure out who's on who's team. The passengers are being filmed as they are killed and the footage sent to Aynslee Kai, a young female TV presenter. The worst of it is that 8 of the 9 victims were children and Jaywalker finds himself before a jury fighting for his client against insurmountable evidence.
I think Joseph Teller is close to joining the elite among mystery writers. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. More to the point, it is extremely accurately done.

Jaywalker tries to stay focused on at least getting his client a minimum sentence from the overzealous prosecuting attorney when one courtroom moment blows the case wide open while his client is on the stand. However, it suffered from too many characters. I strongly urge people to read them all though. Refresh and try again. An easy read, great for when you have time to read without having to put the book down. This is the 2nd of the series.
